Propecia

Propecia (finasteride) is a specific inhibitor of steroid Type II 5α-reductase – an enzyme that causes the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is thought to be responsible for hair loss, so once this process is slowed down the patients are able to grow back some hair. Some dangerous symptoms can also occur, although these are very rare. Such symptoms can include changes in the breasts, itching, hives, rash, swelling of the lips and hives. Propecia has not been reported to cause any drug interactions, but you still need to inform your health care provider about any other medicines you are currently taking.

You will notice the first results of taking Propecia only after three months of regularly taking it. Although this medicine is efficient for most patients taking it, if you have not noticed any results after a year of regularly taking Propecia, talk to your doctor about an alternative. Pregnant women must not be exposed to the active ingredient of this medicine. If such an exposure takes place the area affected should be washed with some water and a doctor should be consulted. Do not share your medicine with other people even if you think they might benefit from it.
